Griquas captain Albert Liebenberg is set to join the DHL Stormers. The 28-year-old forward spearheaded the Kimberley-based side during their Currie Cup title defence this year. The high-profile move shifts the robust lock into the coastal franchise's roster ahead of their upcoming United Rugby Championship (URC) campaign.
The transfer offers the skipper a direct pathway to test his mettle in international club competition. Griquas management expressed immense pride in the player's development. The Union views the transition as a testament to their provincial structures in preparing talent for tier-one tournaments.
“After being part of our successful 2026 season, this move allows Albert to challenge himself at URC level,” a Griquas spokesperson confirmed in an official statement. “We’re proud to see Albert take this opportunity and will be following his journey throughout the URC. Go well, Albert. We look forward to seeing you back in the Griquas jersey.”
