A SARU u/20 competition is set to replace the current u/21competition. A possibility of an u/19 "Craven Week" style Championship as was played in 2019 is apparently also considered.

According to informed sources, discussions recently took place to finalise the structures of the SARU u/20 Championship for 2021.

A two-tier competition with a Cup and Shield Championship is the favoured competition structure.

The SARU u/20 Cup Championship will consist of teams from the Blue Bulls, Eastern Province, Free State, Golden Lions, Leopards, Sharks and Western Province.

The SARU u/20 Cup Championship will be played over two rounds. The first round will be played during February and March while the second round will run concurrently with the Carling Currie Cup.

A semi-final and final will be played. The final will be staged as a curtain-raiser to the Currie Cup final.

Only a single round of fixtures is proposed for the Shield competition with Boland, Border, Griffons, Griquas, Limpopo Bulls, Pumas, SWD Eagles and Valke the teams will compete.

As with the Cup competition semi-finals and a final is also proposed.
