DHL Stormers’ forwards coach Rito Hlungwani confirmed the return of Salmaan Moerat to training following a serious toe injury.
Moerat's recovery comes at a critical time as the Stormers prepare for a two-match Vodacom URC tour against Ulster (Friday night) and Cardiff. The coaching staff will monitor his progress throughout the week to determine if he will travel with the touring party.
Moerat has officially rejoined squad sessions. Hlungwani noted that Moerat participated in a "split session" involving scrumming and live mauls, indicating he is being reintegrated into high-contact drills.
“We just had a split session, and he was getting stuck in. He did some scrumming and live mauls, so he’s coming back slowly. We’ll see how he goes for the rest of the week.”
Moerat's return is considered a major "Bok boost" for the pack, especially with fellow lock JD Schickerling ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.
“JD is out for the season, which we all know. So having someone like Salmaan coming back would obviously help us with depth.”
