Saluting A Legend: Divan Batt Reaches Elite Milestone

Hoërskool Stellenberg has officially honoured head coach Divan Batt for an extraordinary milestone, marking 20 years of dedicated service to the school’s U19A / 1stXV rugby program.

Stellenberg 1stXV head coach Batt reached an elite benchmark of 350 matches at the helm. The milestone perfectly aligned with the school's 40th anniversary year, capping off what critics and fans alike are calling one of the most successful and dominant schoolboy rugby seasons in Stellenberg's history.

Under Batt's visionary guidance, Stellenberg transformed from a competitive local side into an absolute national powerhouse. The historic 2026 season saw the Jade Brigade pull off a series of unprecedented, giant-killing victories over South Africa's traditional rugby titans, including Paarl Gimnasium, Grey College, and Paul Roos, all within a single month.

Instead of relying on heavy recruitment or expensive bursaries, Stellenberg built their success from the ground up. Their multi-decade strategy focused entirely on developing homegrown community talent and fostering a fiercely loyal team culture.

The profound impact of Batt's leadership is felt deeply by his colleagues, players, and the broader Durbanville community. In a moving tribute celebrating his loyalty, a close affiliate of the program shared the following words of praise:

"Huge congratulations to Divan Batt on the exceptional achievement of being the U19A coach of Hoërskool Stellenberg High School Rugby for 20 years already. 350 matches and not out! The 2026 season was an outstanding season for you and your fellow coaching staff! We salute you for your loyalty and service to our school. What a privilege it is to be able to work alongside you!

With 350 matches now in the history books and a groundbreaking season behind them, Coach Batt's legacy at Stellenberg is firmly cemented. He has not only raised the standard of rugby at the school but has fundamentally reshaped the landscape of South African schoolboy rugby, proving that long-term vision, innovative coaching, and loyalty truly matter.
