Deaf Rugby: South Africa Brave Tokyo Downpour After Mixed Day 2 Results

2 November 2026

The South African Deaf Rugby Sevens team completed a demanding five-match pool stage campaign at the 2026 World Deaf Rugby Sevens Championships. The opening day yielded mixed results, with the squad bouncing back from a loss against Fiji to secure a clinical 33–12 victory over New Zealand.

Day 2 started spectacularly as the South Africans shut out the Barbarians 31–0 with a clinical, dominant performance. However, extreme wet conditions later in the day severely hampered the team's momentum. The squad faced Samoa next, trailing 12–07 at the break before a late Samoan try just before the final whistle sealed a 19–07 defeat.

The final pool fixture against Wales proved equally agonising in the unrelenting downpour. South Africa fell 14–00 behind at the halftime break and eventually lost the encounter 28–05.

The final day's fixtures will be added as soon as they become available.
