Bonus-Point Blitz Keep Fidelity ADT Lions’ Playoff Hopes Alive

The Fidelity ADT Lions secured a commanding 36-12 bonus-point victory over the DHL Stormers XXIII, keeping their playoff hopes alive and temporarily climbing to third on the Currie Cup log with 20 points.

The Lions dominated the opening exchange. Matt Coetzee slotted an early penalty before converting a brilliant tenth-minute try from Gilermo Mentoe, who was set up by slick backline passing. Following a 25-minute stalemate, Jarrod Cairns scored off a powerful lineout maul to send the Lions into the break with a 15-0 lead.

The momentum continued in the second half. Ethan Adams collected a Keagan Smit chip-and-chase to score, and Renzo du Plessis crashed through shortly after to lock in the crucial bonus-point try, extending the lead to 29-0.

The Stormers XXIII answered back through a spectacular 50-metre solo effort from Markus Muller. However, their comeback stalled when Dominic Malgas was shown a yellow card.

Capitalising on the extra man, Latica Nela ripped through for a stunning 40-metre try. While Altus Rabie scored a late consolation try for the Stormers off a rolling maul, the Lions walked away with a dominant 36-12 win.

With the Pumas (17 points) and the Boland Cavaliers (16 points with a game in hand) breathing down their necks, the Lions now face an anxious wait as the rest of the final round unfolds.
