The Sharks Schools Rugby Day 2026 is scheduled for Saturday, 9 May 2026, at Hilton College in KwaZulu-Natal. This annual event serves as a major showcase for KZN's top schoolboy talent and plays a critical role in the provincial trial process for Youth Week selections.
Gilfillan Field (1stXV)
08:00 St Charles vs Clifton
09:30 Tier 2 Urban vs Tier 2 CD
11:00 Kearsney vs Michaelhouse
This is one of the marquee fixtures of the Sharks High Schools Rugby Day, and we should see a high-octane match with some of the best schoolboy talent on display. If Michaelhouse can replicate their performances against Affies and Jeppe, they should deserve a hard-earned win.
The "One-Stripe" are coming off a hard-fought 14-14 draw against Westville Boys' High. They enjoyed a brilliant start to the season including a standout Easter period, going unbeaten at the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival (KERF) with wins over Rustenburg (43-14), Transvalia (33-13), and Zwartkop (22-19); however, recently they had a horrible time at the Grey High Rugby Festival losing to Graeme College (33-35) and SACS (27-33).
Michaelhouse’s side is looking to bounce back from a narrow 21-23 loss to Hilton College just last week, a match they led 21-20 late in the second half before a last-gasp penalty. Michaelhouse did claim the scalps of Affies and Jeppe at the Pretoria Boys High Rugby Festival; however, they recently lost to Grey High (19-28) before beating St Andrew’s College (41-05) at the Grey High Rugby Festival.
12:30 Westville vs Northwood
This is a highly anticipated rematch of their thrilling encounter earlier this season in which Westville beat Northwood 35-29. Unfortunately, both teams will be looking to turn their season around, with both teams returning with no wins at the Wildeklawer Festival.
Westville recently lost to Jeppe (28-29), Oakdale (24-40) and Waterkloof (28-31) before last weekend’s 14-14 draw to Kearsney.
Despite losing their two matches at the ABSA Wildeklawer festival, Paarl Boishaai (18-21) and Garsfontein (28-33), Northood did impress against some of the best rugby schools in South Africa.
Taking their performances at the ABSA Wildeklawer into account, Northwood must be the favourites to take revenge.
14:00 Hilton vs Glenwood
“Unfortunately”, the struggling Glenwood will go down to Hilton College, with a big margin predicted.
15:30 Maritzburg College vs DHS
Despite Maritzburg’s recent two losses, Stellenberg (19-24) and Outeniqua (29-30), at the ABSA Wildeklawer, they showed that they can compete with the best that South Africa can offer. DHS “surprisingly” lost to Northwood (14-17) before the ABSA Wildeklwer, where they lost to Monnas (27-41) and Paarl Gim (07-47).
DHS will be determined to claim the King of KwaZulu-Natal title and will test Maritzburg for the full 70 minutes on Saturday; however, Maritzburg should be the favourites on Saturday if they can replicate their ABSA Wildeklawer form.
