Vermeulen Confident “Energetic” Springboks Are No Gamble Against Resilient Scotland

SA Rugby Mobi-unit coach Duane Vermeulen has expressed immense excitement over the vibrant energy within the Springbok matchday squad selected to face Scotland at Loftus Versfeld this Saturday at 17:40 (SA Time).

While acknowledging the lineup's relative lack of Test experience, Vermeulen firmly rejected the notion that the selection is a gamble.

"The guys getting an opportunity to play are definitely good enough. Test caps don't really define you as a player," Vermeulen insisted. "We've got guys with fewer caps this week, but they bring great energy. We also have the calm, experienced heads of Pieter-Steph du Toit, Jesse Kriel, and Damian Willemse to settle any nerves.

"He noted a distinct, heightened buzz in the camp: "There's more excitement in the squad this week than usual. If we can direct that energy into the right areas, we'll be in for a great game.

"This historic encounter marks the first time these two nations will clash at Pretoria's iconic Loftus Versfeld. Despite suggestions that the high altitude will heavily favour the hosts, the Springboks remain highly respectful of a formidable Scottish side. Scotland enters the fixture on the back of a powerful Six Nations campaign, featuring victories over England and France, alongside a recent away win against the Pumas in Argentina.

"A lot of their players play for Glasgow Warriors, who have already proven they can win at Loftus Versfeld after beating the Vodacom Bulls," the former Springbok No. 8 warned. "They are a fit, skilful side with mobile forwards and a very clever tactical plan."

Vermeulen said that Scotland’s threat extends far beyond their widely praised expansive play."Everyone focuses on their attack, but they boast a modern, rugged defence that we’ve been working hard to unlock," he said. "They are a resilient group that stays in the fight. While we want to assert our traditional physical dominance, they know exactly how to counter it. Under the latest law variations, we might even see Scotland mauling a lot more than people expect."
