USA Withstands Late Springbok Women Onslaught

The USA Women’s Eagles fought to a dramatic 26-19 lead against the Springbok Women in an intense second Test showdown at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria. Driven by a sensational hat-trick from winger Telesi Uhatafe, the visitors established a commanding second-half cushion to counter South Africa's late offensive surge.

The match opened with fierce physicality from both sides, remaining scoreless until the 20th minute, when powerful loosehead prop Hope Rogers crashed over the line for the opening try. Inside centre Bella Vogel added the extra two points to give the USA a 07-00 lead.

The Springbok Women hit back immediately. Winger Alichia Arries beat two defenders out wide to score, with Jakkie Cilliers nailing the conversion to level the score at 07-07.

A costly error resulted in a penalty try awarded against the South Africans, pushing the USA back ahead 14-07.

Just before the break, Springbok hooker Micke Gunter found space in the left-hand corner to score, reducing the halftime deficit to 14-12.

The USA team wasted no time shifting gears immediately after the restart. Winger Telesi Uhatafe took control of the second half, crossing the line in the 42nd minute. Another accurate conversion by Bella Vogel built the gap to 21-12.

Uhatafe struck again in the 64th minute, executing her hat-trick try to put the USA firmly in the driving seat at 26-12.

Refusing to back down in front of their home crowd, South Africa launched a relentless late-game attack. In the 68th minute, Ayanda Malinga’s dazzling footwork sliced through the Eagles' defence and grounded the ball. Cilliers added her second conversion of the afternoon, narrowing the gap to 26-19.

The tense final minutes tested both defensive lines as the Eagles successfully protected their seven-point cushion until the final whistle.
