The Toyota Cheetahs announced that two key players, Prince Nkabinde and Marco Jansen van Vuren, have extended their contracts with the team for an additional two years. Although their current contracts do not expire until June next year (2026), both players have committed early to continue their journey with the Free State side, underscoring their belief in the team’s vision and ambition.
Prince Nkabinde has quickly established himself as one of South Africa’s most exciting wings.
His career highlights include a standout 2024 Varsity Cup season with FNB UJ, where he started every round-robin match, finished as runner-up for the FNB Backline Player that Rocks Award, and entered UJ’s top five all-time Varsity Cup try-scorers.
Selection for the SA U/20 Academy camp in 2019, followed by strong campaigns with the Lions U/21 and SuperSport Challenge squads.
Key performances for the Griquas in the Currie Cup Premier Division (2022) and for the Emirates Lions in 2023. Prince made his debut for the Toyota Cheetahs in the 2024 Currie Cup season and played in 17 matches so far. Now, as he joins the Toyota Cheetahs on a longer-term commitment, Nkabinde brings pace, flair, and proven try-scoring ability to the backline.
At 29, Marco Jansen van Vuren adds both experience and adaptability to the Toyota Cheetahs squad. Renowned for his ability to cover scrum-half, centre, and wing, Jansen van Vuren’s rugby journey is marked by resilience and consistent performances.
Marco represented South Africa at the junior level, including the SA U20S. He also made his mark with the Vodacom Bulls, competing in the URC and Currie Cup, gaining experience at the highest levels of provincial rugby.
Valued for his versatility and work ethic, he is a reliable performer who strengthens any backline configuration.
Marco has earned a total of 28 caps for the Toyota Cheetahs so far, and his decision to extend his stay reflects both his commitment to the team and his determination to play a leading role in its success over the coming seasons.
