Since we started following the “transfers” of schoolboys, it was evident that several boys were moving a second time due to broken promises, still looking for better opportunities or better financial deals for the parents.
It was also evident that the school that is willing to replace another boy with yours will also not have a problem replacing your boy with the next “wunderkid” that becomes “available”, forcing the parent to look for another opportunity.
A wise old man once said to me that the best school is the school closest to my house. Unfortunately, we have to admit that if your boys are really talented, the chance that they will succeed as rugby players from the school closest to your house will take a miracle.
Recent results have shown that the majority of boys recruited by the top Franchises and Universities are boys who attended the top schools in the country.
Attending a school based purely on its name or ranking will be a mistake if it doesn't meet the student's actual requirements.
First, the parents and the boys must visit the school to observe the general atmosphere. Are students engaged and respectful? Does the environment feel nurturing, or is it overly rigid or competitive?
The "right" school focuses not just on the child’s sporting ambitions, but also on a student's academic ambitions, emotional needs, confidence, and overall well-being. A school's culture, values, and approach to discipline must also align with the student's personality and the family's values.
