
Stellenberg confirmed their brilliance with a workmanlike 38-10 win over a gutsy Wynberg in difficult windy conditions. Stellenberg scored six tries to one by Wynberg.
Stellenberg dominated the first 10 minutes of the match; however, Wynberg clawed their way back into the game, and after spending several minutes on the attack, Wynberg sent the ball to the short side, and Chad Campbell scored in the corner. Luke Gertze converted from the corner to extend Wynberg’s lead to 07-00.
Stellenberg started to attack, and following some brilliant work by their backs, Carl Brink crashed over after twenty-two minutes of play. Ethan van Biljon converted to level the scores 07-07.
Four minutes later, Luke Gertze converted a penalty to edge Wynberg 10-07 into the lead.
However, Stellenberg attacked again with their backs, and eventually Ralton Rhode crashed over in the corner to extend Stellenberg’s lead to 12-10.
Thereafter, Ethan van Biljon showed some magic down the touchline, eventually passing to Emile Cilliers, who crashed over Wynberg’s tryline after showing great speed, to extend Stellenberg’s lead to 19-10 following a successful conversion by Ethan van Biljon.
Stellenberg led 19-10 at the halftime break and will be looking forward to the second half, playing with a strong wind in their back.
Stellenberg continued their dominance in the second half, and Juvan Burden crashed over Wynberg’s tryline to extend Stellenberg’s lead to 24-10. Ethan van Biljon converted Burden’s try to extend Stellenberg’s lead to 26-10.
Wynberg dominated the following fifteen minutes; however, despite creating several try-scoring opportunities, mistakes were made just before they could score, and Stellenberg held on to still lead 26-10.
Juven Burden scored his second try, crashing over with thirteen minutes to play, extending Stellenberg’s lead to 31-10.
With time running out, Jean-Roux Wessels sniped for Stellenberg’s sixth try to secure a 38-10 win following the conversion by Ethan van Biljon.
