Springbok Women’s Sevens Lost To Great Britain Despite Brilliant Effort

In a rematch of their Pool B game earlier today, the Springbok Women’s Sevens could not repeat their win over Great Britain and lost 19-14. They will play Argentina on Sunday at 04:46 in the eleventh-place final.

The Springboks had a dominant start; however, it was Great Britain who opened the scoring with a long-distance try, leading 07-00 after four minutes of play in the first half. A red card to the Springboks basically ended their hope to play in the ninth-place final Sunday morning. England used their numerical advantage immediately and scored their second try with seconds remaining in the first half. However, the Springboks were not done yet, and Shanidine Bezuidenhout scored from a turnover. Byrhandre Dolf converted the try to cut Great Britain’s lead to 14-07 at the halftime break.

Great Britain pounced on a mistake made by the Springboks in their red zone and scored the first try of the second half to lead 19-07 after two minutes of play. Maria Tshiremba collected a kick forward and ran forty-odd meters to reply immediately, cutting Great Britain’s lead to 19-14, which was the final score.
