Hoërskool Diamantveld have officially thrown down the gauntlet for the 2027 schoolboy rugby season. Following their phenomenal run of winning the Wesgrow title three years in a row, the Kimberley powerhouse has opted for a bold, brave change of direction, structuring a blockbuster fixture list designed to test their depth against the absolute best teams in South Africa.
This strategic evolution is a massive victory for the Northern Cape. By stepping up to play national heavyweights, Diamantveld is solidifying Kimberley and Griquas Rugby as a premier elite pathway. Local schoolboys no longer need to look to other provinces to play top-tier rugby; the ultimate proving ground is now right on their doorstep.
Diamantveld’s vision extends far beyond the First XV. In a massive statement of intent, the school's junior teams are being sent into the ultimate provincial crucibles to test their mettle at South Africa's most prestigious junior festivals during 19-24 March 2027:
* U14A: Heading to George to compete at Outeniqua.
* U15A: Travelling to the winelands to face the best at Paarl Boys' High (Boishaai).
* U16A: Taking on elite national competition at Paarl Gimnasium.
The First XV's campaign is packed with high-stakes festival rugby. A major highlight is their trip to Pretoria for the prestigious Noord-Suid Rugby Festival at Affies (18–22 March), where Diamantveld will square off against northern powerhouses EG Jansen and Menlo Park.
Add to this their traditional appearances at the Wildeklawer festival (23-26 April) hosted at Diamantveld, where Diamantveld will face Rustenburg and Helpmekaar, and high-intensity interschools against Upington and Duineveld, and it becomes clear that Diamantveld is embarking on one of the most gruelling schedules in school rugby.
With a calendar that features six of the top 30 rugby schools in South Africa, Diamantveld management acknowledges that their squad depth will be tested like never before. Yet, there is zero hesitation in the camp. The school, its players, and the broader Griquas rugby community are relishing the underdog status and looking forward to making history in 2027.
