The Springbok Women SVNS are still looking for their first win in Spain following a heartbreaking 12-17 loss to Fiji 7s.
The Springboks started like a house on fire, and brilliant defence by the Springboks forced a bouncing ball in Fiji’s in-goal area, on which Byrhandre Dolf pounced to score the first try of the match, extending the Springboks’ lead to 05-00 after 3 minutes of play in the first half.
However, Fiji struck back almost immediately to edge 07-05 into the lead. Fiji added a second try with time up on the clock to lead 12-05 at the halftime break.
Fiji scored their third try within 30 seconds played in the second half to extend Fiji’s lead to 17-05. However, the Springboks continued to attack, and eventually Maria Tshiremba scored a well-worked try. Byrhandre Dolf converted the try to cut Fiji’s lead to 17-12 and 3 minutes to play. However, a yellow card to Maria Tshiremba ended the Springboks’ hopes. Fiji won 17-12.
