SASRA “pleaded” in recent correspondence that SA Rugby change the current funding model so that all youth weeks equally share the funds allocated for the Youth Weeks.
At this stage, only the U16 Grant Khomo, U16 Girls, U18 Girls, and the U18 Craven Week are SA Rugby weeks and are receiving SA Rugby funding, while the other weeks are the responsibility of SASRA and the provinces hosting them.
“The plea is for the funding model to change. The members were unanimous in their support for all weeks to receive some funding.
The idea is to spread the funding across all the tournaments. This does not necessarily mean equal funding, although that would be the goal.
This would then mean that each of the players attending the weeks contributes something towards the tournaments that they attend, thus reducing costs for those players attending weeks that are not subsidised.
At the very least, the full medical services, referees’ services and transport costs must be covered to ensure that the medical services provided at each tournament are of the same high standard across all the tournaments as below:
U13 CW and AW
U16 Grant Khomo
U18 and U16 Girls
U18 LSEN
U18 AW
U18 CW"
