The South African Rugby Union made clear its position regarding unauthorised trial competitions currently being promoted outside the structures of the global game.
Any player registered with a SARU entity who elects to participate in these trials will face immediate expulsion from all SARU leagues and competitions.
SARU’s responsibility is to safeguard the integrity of its competitions, protect the welfare of players and uphold the values of the game. Participation in unsanctioned trials undermines these principles and threatens the stability of rugby both domestically and internationally.
SARU calls on all players, agents and stakeholders to respect the established pathways of the sport. SARU remains committed to providing opportunities for growth and excellence within the structures recognised by World Rugby and its partner unions. Any deviation from these structures cannot be tolerated.
The future of the game depends on unity, discipline and respect for the frameworks that protect it. SARU will act decisively to ensure these standards are upheld.
