It was confirmed that Johan du Plessis (Duppie) resigned as 1stXV coach at Garsfontein. According to Sylvester Booysen, Garsfontein's new coaching structure will be announced on Wednesday next week, with Sylvester becoming the new 1stXV head coach.
Duppie and Gustav Theunissen will be remembered as the main architects of the revival of Garsfontein rugby, establishing the school's rugby programme that has provided many young boys with a brilliant rugby career as well as a proper education. Under the guidance of Duppie, Garsfontein has evolved from wannabees to shopaholics and in the past few years, into one of the top rugby schools in South Africa.
Under the guidance of Duppie, Garsfontein's 1stXV has won the NoordVaal Cup for the past three years. He served Garsfontein Rugby for sixteen years, always pushing, hustling, and developing.
An emotional Duppie said that he will return to coaching very soon and is considering a few options for 2026. A big loss for Garsfontein and schoolboy rugby indeed.
