
The Fidelity ADT Lions moved up to third on the Carling Currie Cup log with a dominant 44-05 bonus-point win over the Vodacom Bulls at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.
Chris Smit converted an early penalty for the Lions after just two minutes of play in the first half.
The Lions set up camp in the Bulls' twenty-two and attacked off a scrum, and Chris Smit scored the first try of the match. Smit added the extras to extend the Lions’ lead to 10-00.
However, the Bulls replied immediately with a try by Jaco van der Walt in the corner to cut the Lions' lead to 10-05.
Minutes later, Chris Smit converted his second penalty to extend the Lions' lead to 13-05 after twenty minutes of play in the first half.
Six minutes later, SJ Kotze bulldozed his way over the Bulls’ tryline. Smit once again added the extra two points to extend the Lions' lead to 20-05.
The Lions continued their dominance in the second half, and PJ Botha scored off the back of a lineout-maul to extend the Lions' lead to 25-05 after just six minutes of play in the second half.
Richard Kriel scored the Lions' fourth and bonus point try, quickly followed by a try by Sam Francis, who added the extra two points to extend the Lions' lead to 37-05 points and two minutes still to play in the second half.
With time up on the clock, Hassiem Pead added his name to the scorecard with a great try to secure a 44-05 win over a hapless Vodacom Bulls.
