The Blue Bulls and Western Province claimed important wins in the second round of the FNB U16 Girls Week at Kearsney College in Botha's Hill near Durban on Thursday, and will meet in the main match on the final day of the tournament on Saturday.
The Bulls, WP, Limpopo Blue Bulls and Boland racked up their second wins of the FNB U16 Girls Week tournament on Thursday, while KwaZulu-Natal, the Valke, Golden Lions, and Leopards bounced back from their losses in the opening round.
The Bulls had to work very hard before grinding out an 8-0 win against Border, while WP delivered a more convincing performance in their emphatic win over the Pumas.
The latter game was halted after 17 minutes, due to lightning in the area. Province lifted the tempo after the enforced break, and ended up winning by 48-0, with Madiniyah Joseph (wing) grabbing a brace of tries for the team from the Western Cape.
Earlier in the day, the hosts claimed a 29-7 win against Border Country Districts, with No 8 Shy-Hannah Nichols and fullback Liyanona Lokotwayo scoring two tries apiece.
The Valke scored five tries in their 29-15 win over Griquas, while Lions flanker Princess Makete dotted down twice in her team’s 38-5 victory against Eastern Province.
The Leopards were made to fight for their 22-10 win over Free State, the Limpopo Blue Bulls ran in six tries against the Griffons in their 32-5 victory, and Boland downed SWD 43-5.
