The Vodacom Bulls have acquired the services of the duo, Deon Slabbert and Devon Williams on a loan deal that will see the pair join the Vodacom Bulls until the beginning of the 2024 Currie Cup campaign.
Williams enjoyed a stellar campaign during the 2023 Currie Cup competition, featuring in all of the Pumas fixtures and dotting down six tries to accumulate 35 points and helping his team reach the finals. Much like his teammate, Slabbert was an influential figure for the Mbombela side, featuring in 14 outings for the gents in pink, scoring two tries in the campaign.
Edgar Rathbone, BBCo. Chief Executive said that the two players arriving on loan were necessary in order to provide cover with the Rugby World Cup running into the start of the new season.
“We welcome both Devon and Deon to Loftus. We are excited to have them join us; their experience and talent is bound to be an added bonus amongst our roster of players as we rally for the start of the new campaign. We wish to thank everyone at the Pumas and the player agents for how they have collaborated with us to make this deal possible. Everyone is well aware of the talents these two have and after their successful Currie Cup campaign, we are confident that they are helping us strengthen our squad for the time they will be with us.”
Director of Rugby, Jake White said: “It is great that we have secured these two wonderful players. Devon provides great cover for us in the absence of Canan (Moodie), Kurt-Lee (Arendse) and Willie (le Roux) who are still with the Springboks, even more should they be part of the Bok World Cup squad. Likewise, Deon gives us much-needed reinforcement at lock as we look ahead to a bumper season where we want to remain competitive and prove to be a force to reckon with across all competitions,”
“We are all excited to be integrating them both into our plans between now and the beginning of the New Year.”
