
Affies 40-37 Paarl Boishaai
Paarl Boishaai set up camp in Affies twenty-two for the first five minutes and opened the scoring with a well-worked try. Boishaai’s forwards and backs combined to open the defence of Affies. The pressure on Affies secured several penalties, which Boishaai used to convert a penalty, extending their lead to 10-00 after nine minutes of play in the first half. Six minutes later, Boishaai converted a second penalty to lead 13-00. Boishaai continued to set up camp in Affies red zone and scored their second try, extending their lead to 20-00 with eight minutes to play in the first half. With time running out, Affies attacked out wide to cut Boishaai’s lead to 20-05. With time up on the clock, Boishaai converted a penalty to lead 23-05 at the halftime break.
Affies started like a house on fire and scored a great try after three minutes of play in the first half. Affies were awarded a penalty try after ten minutes of play in the first half, cutting Boishaai’s lead to four points; however, Boishaai hit back almost immediately with wave after wave of attacks, and scored a well-worked try, extending their lead to 30-19. The try madness continued, and Affies scored a long-distance try to once again cut Boishaai’s lead to four points. It was Boishaai’s turn to score with their big forwards, extending their lead again to eleven points with fifteen minutes to play. With six minutes to play, Affies scored off the back of a maul to make it a four-point game. With time up on the clock, Affies scored a great try to secure a 40-37 win.
Grey College 52-14 Jeppe
Grey scored their first try after ten minutes of play, and continued to score at regular intervals to lead 33-00 at the halftime break. Jeppe started the second half, scoring their first try of the match after five minutes of play to cut Grey’s lead to 33-07. Jeppe looked a lot better in the second half and scored two tries to Grey's one, to trail 14-40 with ten minutes to play in the second half. Grey College had the final say with two late tries to secure a 52-14 win.
DHS 07-47 Paarl Gim
Paarl Gim patiently absorbed the early pressure from DHS and scored after ten minutes of play; however, DHS struck back three minutes later to level the scores at 07-07. The Paarl Gim machine started to click and scored their second try to lead 12-07 after seventeen minutes of play. With five minutes to play in the first half, Paarl Gim scored their third try to lead 19-07.
Gim continued their attack and scored their fourth try after four minutes in the second half, extending their lead to 26-07. Thereafter, Paarl Gim scored tries at regular intervals to win 47-07.
Paul Roos 15-13 Oakdale
Oakdale started the match using their big boys up front and scored from the back of a maul to lead 07-00 after eight minutes of play. Paul Roos replied four minutes later to trail 05-07 with a try. Paul Roos wrestled domination away from Oakdale during the final quarter of the first half and scored a second try to lead 12-07; however, with time running out, Oakdale converted a long-distance try to cut Paul Roos’ lead to 12-10, which was also the halftime score.
Oakdale dominated possession and territory early in the second half, and took the lead, 13-12, with a converted penalty after twelfe minutes of play. Despite dominating the final ten minutes of the match, Paul Roos could not convert their domination into points, but with time up on the clock, Paul Roos converted a penalty to secure a smash-and-grab win of 15-13 against an unlucky Oakdale.
Northwood 31-33 Garsfontein
Northwood started like a house on fire and scored a converted try almost from the kick off, to which Garsfontein replied five minutes later to level the scores 07-07. Northwood scored three brilliant tries to lead 28-07 with ten minutes to play. Monnas scored a late try to cut Northwood’s lead to 28-14, which was the halftime score.
Garsfontein opened the second half with two tries in quick succession, to which Northwood replied with a converted penalty, to lead 31-26, and twenty-five minutes to play in the second half. Garsfontein dominated the next fifteen minutes and eventually scored a well-worked try to take the lead 33-31, which was the final score.
Noordheuwel 14-16 Boland Landbou
Boland Landbou led 10-07 at the halftime break, and converted an early penalty to extend their lead with two converted penalties to lead 16-07 after six minutes of play. With seven minutes to play, Noordheuwel used their big forwards to crash over and score a great try to cut Boland’s lead to 16-14. A missed conversion attempt by Noordheuwel secured the win for a deserving Boland Landbou.
Outeniqua 30-29 Maritzburg College
An arm wrestle with both teams playing constructive rugby, resulting in the lead changing hands several times. Maritzburg College led 26-22 with fifteen minutes to play in the second half. Outeniqua took the lead 27-26 with eight minutes to play, but Maritzburg College converted a penalty with seconds still to play, to edge 29-27 into the lead. However, Outeniqua converted a penalty to win 30-29. Great rugby between two willing teams giving their all.
Helpmekaar 73-34 Queen’s College
Queen’s College started like a house on fire and scored from the kickoff to lead 05-00 after just two minutes of play. Helpmekaar replied with two scintillating tries to lead 14-05 after eleven minutes of play in the first half. Not to be outdone, Queen’s replied with a well-worked try, followed by an intercept try to take a 19-14 lead after fifteen minutes of play in the first half. The ding-dong battle continued, and Helpmekaar led 28-24 at the halftime break.
The second half was a high-scoring try festival, and Helpmekaar eventually won 73-34.
Diamantveld 20-31 Stellenberg
Diamantveld surprised all with a blistering start nd scored after seven minutes of play. Stellenberg scored a try two minutes later to trail 05-07; however, Diamantveld scored their second try after seventeen minutes of play to extend their lead to 14-05. Diamantveld dominated the rest of the first half, but Stellenberg set up camp in Diamantveld’s red zone and scored their second try to trail 10-12 at the halftime break.
Stellenberg were the “better” team in the second half, scoring two tries to the one of Diamantveld to lead 24-20 with fifteen minutes still to play. Stellenberg added another try, which increased their lead to 31-20; however, the fighting spirit kept them on the attack during the final minutes. Stellenberg is extremely lucky to go back home unbeaten after two tough matches.
