The Paarl Boishaai vs Paul Roos Gymnasium match is scheduled for Saturday, 23 May 2026, at the Markötter Stadium in Stellenbosch. Paul Roos remains especially dangerous at home, winning their last three matches at Markötter by margins of 17 points or more and should be the favourites.
With this season being so unpredictable, Paul Roos could move to the top of the Ruggas.co.za 1stXV rankings while Paarl Boishaai could be in the top three, edging ever closer to the number 1 spot if they beat Paul Roos.
Paul Roos Form: The "Maroon Machine" has won 10 out of 11 matches this season, with their only loss coming against Stellenberg (10-20) early April 2026. Paarl Boishaai, on the other hand, has had a more inconsistent 2026 season (6 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw), but they are fresh off a dominant 29-07 win over the previously top-ranked Stellenberg.
However, whatever happened previously in 2026 and in history will have no effect on the outcome of Saturday’s war. Paul Roos must have the best balanced team in South Africa, playing the game a pace, on the defence and the attack. Paarl Boyshaai have a much younger team, and as against Stellenberg, their gameplan and their ability to force it on Paul Roos will be the deciding factor.
As against Stellenberg, Paul Roos must be the favourite; however, the current Paarl Boishaai can do a double, upsetting Paul Roos as they showed against Stellenberg.
In another match, Paarl Gim travels to the 2026 Southern Suburbs Kings, Wynberg, on Saturday. Unfortunately for Wynberg, despite the great form shown against Grey High School (41-17), Paarl Gim at this stage is just that much better. It will be a ferroucious first 50 minutes; however, then Gim should win by 20 odd points.
Stellenberg, Durbanville and Boland Landbou should cruise home with easy wins.
