Bishops Diocesan College announced the appointment of Mr Sam Mofokeng as their new 1st XV Rugby coach with immediate effect.

Sam is highly qualified and brings a wealth of experience to the position. He completed his World Rugby Level III coaching qualification in 2024 while coaching at Bishops.

Sam has coached at the highest level at school, coaching the Michaelhouse 1st XV and then the Kearsney 1st XV before being appointed as a teacher at Bishops and a vital part of our sports programme. In addition to coaching cricket at the A team junior level, Sam has been in the senior rugby coaching ranks for some time, acting as the Bishops 1st XV interim Head Coach in 2025.

His expertise has been recognised by two provincial structures and he coached the Sharks U18 Craven Week team in 2017/18 and has been involved in the WP Craven Week structure since 2022, as Head Coach of the U18 XV in 2024/25 and taking on the role of WP Craven Week U18 Defence Coach in 2026.

Sam’s passion for coaching and the sport of rugby extends beyond school, and he has been involved with UCT as the U20 Attack Coach and, more recently, as the UCT 1st XV SLA Defence Coach.

In addition to his love for rugby, Sam is fully employed as a History teacher at Bishops and is also the Assistant House Director of School House.

Sam is married to Clea, who is an English teacher at Bishops, and they have recently welcomed their first child, a son, Nande, into their family.
