Affies Must Be The Favourite Against Grey College “Oppie Plaas”

Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool will host Grey College on Saturday, in one of South African schoolboy rugby's most legendary clashes.

Both teams are currently on three-game winning streaks. Affies' last loss was against Garsfontein (34-28), after which they beat Outeniqua (55-26) and Paarl Boishaai (40-37) at the ABSA Wildeklawer, and then the amazing 78-10 over Jeppe a week ago. Grey College lost to Paarl Gim (14-29), whereafter they beat Noordheuwel (34-12) and Jeppe (54-14) at the ABSA Wildeklawer, and then had to work hard for a win against Paarl Boishaai (31-21) in Bloemfontein a week ago.

Experts point to Grey’s superior backline speed and versatility in adapting their game plan under pressure, while the "Witbulle" will likely rely on their set-piece dominance, specifically aiming to use the driving maul as a primary attacking platform, whereafter their wingers will get plenty of quality attacking ball to score tries with.

Affies' defensive structure is notoriously difficult to break down, while Grey’s defence out wide was exposed on several occasions, and both teams have proven clinical in the closing quarters.

Taking everything into account, Affies must be the favourites for a 3-5 points win against their visitors; however, they must guard against allowing Grey to establish a big lead in the opening half, which Grey is known to be able to defend.

Monnas vs Jeppe
Following Affies 78-10 win over Jeppe, one can only predict another big loss to Monnas, who is also in fine form. This will become ugly for Jeppe.
