Ruan Ackermann has been handed a three-match suspension following his red card for a dangerous cleanout against Leinster in the United Rugby Championship.
The Stormers No 8 was red-carded by referee Hollie Davidson under Law 9.20(a) (dangerous play at a ruck or maul) for a reckless, tucked-shoulder hit directly to the head of Leinster hooker Ronan Kelleher in the 69th minute.
Judicial officer Simon Thomas determined that the foul play warranted a mid-range entry point of six weeks; however, the ban was reduced to three matches because Ackermann admitted to the wrongdoing, showed remorse, and possessed a previously clean disciplinary record.
The suspension can be reduced to two matches if Ackermann successfully completes the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme (commonly known as "tackle school").
Because the Stormers were eliminated in the semi-final following that 20-11 defeat, Ackermann will serve the ban during the domestic season. He is set to miss the Stormers XXIII's opening three Currie Cup matches against:
1. Griquas
2. Boland
3. The Sharks
