Ackermann Sent Another SOS

The Vodacom Bulls have reportedly recruited the help of Duane Vermeulen and fellow Springboks coach Felix Jones as part of the to help navigate a difficult start to the season that has seen them suffer five consecutive defeats.

Vermeulen and Jones are part of the SA Rugby "Mobi-Unit" of coaches, a high-performance think-tank that assists elite national and franchise teams.

Following a five-match losing streak, the Bulls recently parted ways with assistant coaches Chris Rossouw and Andries Bekker and recruited Neil de Bruin to replace Chris Rossouw.

The Bulls are scheduled to report to Loftus on Monday morning tostart their training for their upcoming match against the DHL Stormers on Saturday, 03 January 2026 at 18:00 in Cape Town.

Duane Vermeulen, the two-time World Cup winner, who previously captained the Bulls, is expected to offer expertise in forward play, particularly lineout defence and the driving maul. He transitioned to a coaching role within the SA Rugby structures after retiring as a player in 2023.

While Felix Jones, who is a key part of the Springboks' successful coaching setup, is expected to provide assistance to the Bulls' defence, an area of significant concern for the team this season.

This is not the first time the Bulls have sought the assistance of the Mobi-Unit. Vermeulen previously provided coaching assistance to the team in March 2024 while Jake White was Director of Rugby.
