
Paarl Gim 45-10 Helpmekaar
The first twelve minutes were an arm wrestle; however, Gim scored a well-worked try to take an early 07-00 lead. Five minutes later, Paarl Gim’s big forwards crashed over for their second try to extend their lead to 14-00. Helpmekaar slowly clawed their way back into the game and scored a try with brilliant interplay and handling, cutting Paarl Gim’s lead to 14-05. With time running out, Paarl Gim scored a try off the back of a lineout maul to extend their lead to21-05 and five minutes to play in the first half.
Gim continued their form during the start of the first half and scored their first try in the second half to extend their lead to 26-05 after five minutes of play. Helpmekaar attacked from a dropped ball and scored a long-distance try in the corner to cut Gim’s lead to 26-10 with thirteen minutes to play. Gim struck back immediately with their sixth try, extending their lead to 33-10. Thereafter, Gim scored an additional two tries, earning a 45-10 win.
Grey College 34-12 Noordheuwel
Despite a dominant start by Grey College, it took them twenty minutes to score their first try of the match. With five minutes to play scored their second try to extend their lead to 10-00. Grey scored two more try before the halftime break to lead 20-00.
Despite a brilliant defensive effort by Noordheuwel, Grey scored their first try in the second half after ten minutes to extend their lead to 27-00. Noordheuwel upped their attack and scored two tries during the final ten minutes to cut Grey’s lead to 34-12 which was the final score.
Affies 55-26 Outeniqua
Affies showed from the start that they are going to spread the ball wide from anywhere, and a nicely placed grubber by the inside centre was regained, and he crashed over to open the scoring. Affies led 07-00 after just three minutes of play. Outeniqua struck back almost immediately when they regained a great place kick to score under the sticks to level the scores 07-07 after just six minutes of play. Outeniqua started to pounce on the several mistakes Affies made on the defence and attack, and set up camp in the Affies red zone, until a gap opened up wide for Outeniqua to take a 14-07 lead with a try in the corner after fourteen minutes of play in the first half. Affies started patiently building their attack, and when they spread the ball wide, they scored their second try to trail the scores 12-14 with ten minutes still to play. Affies added another try when their prop scored a great try down the middle of the field to extend their lead to 19-14. Despite making several unforced errors, Affies dominated the final ten minutes of play and scored their fourth try with a minute to play and led 24- 14 at the halftime break.
Affies again built their attack patiently and, after five minutes of play, scored a well-deserved try to extend their lead to 31-14. Outeniqua spent several minutes in the Affies red zone and found space out wide to score their third try, cutting Affies' lead to 31-19 after ten minutes of play in the second half. Affies started to attack Outeniqua’s defence with brutal straight running, and with twenty minutes to play, they bulldozed their way over the Outeniqua tryline to extend their lead to 28-19. Affies scored another try after twenty-one minutes of play, to which Outeniqua replied with a try with three minutes to play. Affies led 43-26 with a minute to play, Affies scored two tries to secure a well-deserved win 55-26.
Paarl Boishaai 21-18 Northwood
Northwood scored the first try of the match when they followed up a great grubber into the in-goal area of Boishaai to lead 07-00. Paarl Boishaai scored after twenty minutes of play in the first half off the back of a lineout-maul to level the scores on 07-07. Five minutes later, Boishaai dominated to maul their way to their second try, to lead 12-07, whereafter the teams converted a penalty each. With time running out, Paarl Boishaai scored their second try to lead 18-10 at the halftime break.
Paarl Boishaai converted an early penalty to extend their lead to 21-10. Northwood upped the pace of their attack and scored a brilliant try from a pinpoint kick pass out wide to cut Boishaai’s lead to 21-15. With ten minutes to play, Nortwood converted a penalty to cut Boishaai’s lead to six points. At the end, Paarl Boishaai deservedly won 21-18, going into Monday’s clash against Affies with no new injuries.
Jeppe 31-26 Boland Landbou
Boland Landbou started like a house on fire and scored their first try after only three minutes of play, to which Jeppe replied four minutes later to level the score 07-07. Thereafter, Jeppe took control of the match and led 26-07 at the halftime break. Boland Landbou scored twice during the first ten minutes of the second half to cut Jeppe’s lead to 26-19. Boland continued to up the pressure on Jeppe, and with ten minutes to play, Boland scored their third try in the second half to level the scores 26-26. With time up on the clock, Jeppe attacked from within their half and scored the winning try in the corner. Jeppe won 31-26.
Oakdale 40-24 Westville
In an initially close match, Oakdale and Westville traded blows; however, Oakdale scored two late tries to lead 28-17 at the halftime break. Westville scored the opening try of the second half after ten minutes of play to cut Oakdale's lead to 28-24. Oakdale wrestled back the momentum, and they scored two tries in ten minutes to extend their lead to 40-24 with ten minutes still to play in the second half. Oakdale secured a well-deserved 40-24 win.
Stellenberg 24-19 Maritzburg College
Stellenberg patiently worked their way to the Maritzburg College tryline and scored in the corner after ten minutes of play to lead 07-00. Stellenberg continued to dominate and scored two more tries to lead 17-00. With five minutes to play, Maritzburg College scored a long distance try to go into the second half trailing 07-17.
The first twenty minutes of the first half were dominated by Maritzburg College, and they were rewarded with a well-worked try to cut Stellenberg’s lead to 17-14. With seven minutes to play, Stellenberg Scrumhlaf sniped next to a ruck to save Stellenberg from a red face, extending Stellenberg’s lead to 24-14. Maritzburg scored with four minutes still to play, cutting Stellenberg’s lead to 24-19, which was the final score.
Monnas 41-27 DHS
Waterkloof 22-21 Durbanville
Waterkloof opened the scoring with a converted penalty to lead 03-00 after seven minutes of play. Ten minutes later used their forwards to maul over the Durbanville tryline to lead 08-00. Durbanville dominated the next fifteen minutes; however, Waterkloof’s kick was ignored by Durbanville, and Waterkloof scored a try against the run of play to lead 15-00 and five minutes still to play in the first half.
Durbanville started the second half like a house on fire and scored two early tries to cut Waterkloof’s lead to 15-14; however, a great kick to the corner was controlled by Waterkloof’s wing, who scored a great try, extending Waterkloof’s lead to 22-14 and thirteen minutes still to play in the second half. With time up on the clock, Durbanville scored a try to cut Waterkloof’s lead to 22-21, which was also the final score.
