A dominant Springboks outfit dismantled Wales 43-00 at Hollywoodbets Kings Park on Saturday, using overwhelming scrum dominance to keep their Nations Championship record perfect.
In front of a vocal 40,933 home crowd, South Africa launched an unrelenting first-half onslaught that left the tourists completely shell-shocked.
The hosts set the physical standard inside the opening five minutes. Number eight Jasper Wiese burst through a fractured Welsh defence to open the scoring. Rookie flyhalf Vusi Moyo added the extra points on his test debut to establish an early 7-0 lead.
South Africa's pack completely dictated the set-pieces, routinely fracturing the Welsh scrum. After 13 minutes of continuous attacking pressure, scrumhalf Cobus Reinach sniped off the back of a powerful moving scrum. Moyo’s accurate conversion quickly pushed the scoreline out to 14-0.
Just before the halftime hooter, captain Jesse Kriel capitalised on a well-weighted cross-kick to cross the line for the Springboks' third try. The successful play sent the world champions into the locker rooms with a commanding 19-0 advantage, leaving Wales entirely scoreless.
The second half began exactly like the first. Just one minute after the restart, debutant winger Jaco Williams marked his international arrival by finishing a sweeping move in the corner. Moyo remained clinical from the tee, slotting the conversion to widen the gap to 26-0.
Seeking to completely bury the contest, Rassie Erasmus unleashed the "Bomb Squad" in the 51st minute. The injection of fresh, powerful legs sustained South Africa's brute force, forcing a tiring Welsh outfit into desperate, back-to-wall defending.
The relentless pressure paid dividends in the 63rd minute. Following a lightning-fast breakout orchestrated by Williams, reserve scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies took the return pass to burst over the tryline, pushing the advantage to 31-0.
Wales' frustrations boiled over in the 64th minute when replacement prop Ben Warren was shown a yellow card for a high tackle on Marco van Staden.
Down to 14 men, the tourists could not contain South Africa's expansive game. In the 68th minute, the ball was spun wide to Kurt-Lee Arendse, who showed electric pace to dive over in the left-hand corner, elevating the scoreline to 36-0.
With just a minute left on the clock, debutant flanker Paul de Villiers capped off a memorable night by powering over for the final try of the match. Libbok split the uprights one last time with the conversion, sealing a comprehensive 43-0 seven-try bonus-point victory. The result keeps the squad firmly at the top of the tournament standings.
