Affies Should Be Able To Hang On Against A Late Charge By Motivated Jeppe

The Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool host Jeppe High School for Boys on Saturday in a matchup between two Top 20 national powerhouses. This clash, hosted at the "Witbulle" fortress in Lynnwoodweg, Pretoria, pits a resilient Affies side against a Jeppe team looking to prove their mettle after an inconsistent season.

The "Witbulle" have shown flashes of brilliance, most notably recent victories were over Outeniqua (55-26) and Paarl Boishaai (40-37) at the Absa Wildeklwer, although they have suffered losses to Paul Roos (28-45), Michaelhouse (27-29) and Paarl Gim (24-51), they remain formidable at home.

Jeppe's season highlight remains their historic win against Garsfontein (29-26) earlier in the year. However, they are coming off a heavy defeat to Grey College (14-54) recently and have struggled with their defensive consistency.

Affies are seeking to find the consistency that has eluded them this season; many blame anything other than the sometimes lethargic efforts of the players, which will be costly against a hyped Jeppe team out to secure a win over Affies.

However, Jeppe will be desperate to tighten a defence that conceded 54 points in a single match just weeks ago. Affies needs to take note that Jeppe play the full 70 minutes, and a lead of 10-20 points during the final 10 minutes could become extremely hard to defend; however, Affies should win by 15 to 20 points.

In Middelburg, the annual Middelburg vs Middelburg HTS derby is set to keep the spectators on the edge of their seats. Middelburg HTS, who are having a much better season than Middelburg, defeated Middelburg 15-12 in the NWU Skolesportreeks and should be the favourites to repeat the previous match’s result. Middelburg surprised the country, beating Menlopark (26-25) a week ago, while Middelburg HTS lost to Kempton Park. A close match is predicted, with both teams will be confident. Unfortunately, I do think HTS will be the victors, although by just a point or two.
