
Affies 24-13 Durbanville
Affies opened the scoring using their big boys to launch wave after wave of attacks. Their second try, minutes later, was scored out wide to extend Affies' lead to 12-00 after ten minutes of play in the first half, whereafter, Durbanville converted a penalty to cut Affies’ lead to 12-03 with ten minutes still to play. Affies led 12-03 going into the second half in a scrappy game.
Affies opened the scoring in the second half to extend their lead to 19-03 after five minutes of play, to which Durbanville replied with a try of their own to cut Affies’ lead to 19-10. Durbanville edged closer with a converted penalty and trailed 13-19, and twelve minutes still to play in the second half. Affies attacked off a bad kick from Durbanville and scored in the corner to extend Affies' lead to 24-13, which was the final score.
Grey College 21-26 Stellenberg
Grey dominated the first fifteen minutes of the match, but the brilliant defence of Stellenberg kept them from scoring until they attacked off a Stellenberg up and under and, following brilliant running by the Grey backs, scored to take an early 07-00 lead. Stellenberg hit back almost immediately with a try off the back of a lineout maul after twenty minutes of play. Stellenberg scored a second try off the back of a lineout maul to extend their lead to 12-07 with ten minutes still to play. With time running out, Grey converted two penalties to go into the halftime break leading 13-12.
Grey opened the scoring with a third converted penalty, which was the only points scored in the first fifteen minutes of the match. Stellenberg slowly worked their way into the red zone of Grey and scored an “easy” try to retake the lead 19-16. Stellenberg kicked to the corner and scored their third try off a lineout maul to extend their lead 26-16 with fifteen minutes to play in the first half. With time running out, Grey upped the pace of their attack and scored a brilliant try to trail 21-26, which was the final score.
Menlopark 17-73 Paarl Gim
Paarl Gim showed early on that they intend to use their brilliance on the attack and scored their first try after seven minutes of play,to lead 07-00. Gim scored four more tries to lead 35-00 with ten minutes to play. With five minutes to play, Menlo attacked wide and scored their first try of the match; whereafter, Paarl Gim scored another try to lead 42-07, at the halftime break.
Paarl Gim continued on their merry way and scored two tries to extend their lead to 52-07 with twenty-five minutes still to play in the second half. Despite Menlo scoring two tries, Paarl Gim were awarded a penalty try and scored two more tries to secure a 73-17 win.
Noordheuwel 19-27 Oakdale
Despite Noordheuwel’s dominant start, Oakdale absorbed the pressure and pounced when Noordheuwel messed up an up-and-under to score eight minutes of play in the first half to lead 05-00. Noordheuwel regrouped after Oakdale’s try and scored a try using their big boys to launch wave after wave of attacks after fourteen minutes of play. The following ten minutes were an arm wrestle; however, it was Noordheuwel who scored their second try using their big boys, and led 12-05. Oakdale responded with a try following a patient buildup using the forwards to attack Noordheuwel’s defence and level the scores at 12-12 at the halftime break.
Oakdale scored first in the second half, once again using their big boys to lead 17-12. Oakdale converted a penalty followed by a try to extend their lead to 27-12, with ten minutes to play in the second half. Despite a late try by Noordheuwel, Oakdale did enough to win 27-19.
Helpmekaar 50-22 Boland Landbou
Helpmekaar started like a house on fire, and their dangerous backs cut the defence of Boland almost at will and scored a brilliant try after five minutes of play in the first half. Boland Landbou replied with a converted penalty, but Helpmekaar started to dominate mainly due to the speed of their attack. Helpmekaar scored three tries in quick succession to lead 24-03 at the halftime break.
Boland Landbou started the second half looking like a “new” team, using their forwards to attack. After four minutes of play, Boland crashed over to cut Helpmekaar’s lead to 24-08. Boland continued to launch wave after wave of attacks and scored a second try in the second half to cut Helpmekaar’s lead to 24-14, with twenty-five minutes of play. Great footwork by the Helpmekaar winger resulted in him scoring an easy try to extend Helpmekaar’s lead to 29-15, and twenty minutes still to play. Two late tries by Helpmekaar increased their lead to 43-15, before Boland Landbou scored a consolation try, whereafter, Helpmekaar confirmed their masterclass with another try to secure a 50-22 win.
Rustenburg 47-08 Welkom Gim
Rustenburg had a quick start to the match, and despite trailing 08-19 at the halftime break, Welkom Gim spent the final quarter of the first half on the attack. Rustenburg regained the edge in the second half, and their fly-half cut the defence of Welkom Gim in two to increase Rustenburg’s lead to 26-08 after seven minutes of play. Rustenburg scored three tries during the last minutes of the second half to secure a 47-08 win.
Middelburg 22- 28 Wesvalia
The first half between well-matched teams ended in an arm-wrestle with Wesvalia edging Middelburg 14-12, with both teams scoring two tries each. The arm wrestle continued in the second half, with Wesvalia beating Middelburg 22-28 in what can only be described as a scrappy match.
Middelburg HTS 31-28 Nico Malan-
Despite struggling in the scrums and being pinned in their half, Middelburg clawed their way up the field and after seven minutes of play in the first half, Middelburg’s forwards crushed over to lead 07-00. Nico Malan launched a fifteen-man attack and levelled the score with a try that started in their own half, with the ball being handled twenty-plus times. Nico Malan upped the speed of their attack and took a quick tap, off which they scored their second try to lead 14-07 after twenty minutes of play in the first half. Middelburg’s big lock burst down the middle of the pitch to score a great individual try, and once again level the scores. A try by Nico Malan when time was up on the lock edged them 21-14 into the lead, which was the halftime score.
Following ten minutes in the red Zone of Nico Malan, Middelburg HTS ' hard-running backs crashed over to continue the ding-dong battle. Ten minutes later, the backs of Middelburg showed a lot of class to score their fourth try and retake the lead 28-21. And then it was Nico Malan’s turn to level the scores 28-28 with seven minutes still to play in the second half. Middelburg converted a penalty to secure a 31-28 win.
