Reinach Definitely Targeting The 2027 Rugby World Cup

Cobus Reinach said on Monday that he is targeting the 2027 Rugby World Cup and feels that age is no obstacle to his participation. He will be 38 years old during the tournament in Australia, but remains a key player for the Springboks.

Reinach has voiced his strong ambition to represent South Africa in a third World Cup, dismissing concerns about his age and stating he has "a lot more in the tank."

At 35, he has enjoyed a standout season with the Springboks in 2025, emerging as the team's potential first-choice scrumhalf and performing impressively since his return to South Africa to play for the Stormers.

“I’d be lying if I said I’m not thinking about the 2027 World Cup. It can be done. You’ve got to look after yourself. Recovery, conditioning, and being honest with your body, rugby doesn’t stop. I still have goals, but for now, it is contributing to the Stormers.”

On the big derby on Saturday against the Vodacom Bulls, Reinach said: “I haven’t played in South African derbies for a long time, and I’ve never played in this one. Just hearing the boys talk about it, you realise how big it is. It’s going to be physical, it’s going to be a full house, and it’s a proper contest.”

“If you look at the individuals and the whole Vodacom Bulls team, I don’t think they’re a weakened side or a weak side. I think they were a bit unlucky with a few games; one win and the whole thing turns around, and the snowball starts going. We will have to be on top of our game in every department.”
