The Lions named former Springbok front-rower Wessel Roux to take over from Barend Pieterse, who joins the Junior Springboks management team in January 2026.
The 50-year-old Roux joined the Lions in 2016 as a coach and served as head coach and forwards coach across all junior teams at the franchise for nearly a decade, playing a pivotal role in the mentorship and development of young tight-forwards at the Lions.
Roux also served as the Currie Cup forwards coach from 2022 to 2025, having reached the finals of the competition in the past two seasons alongside coach Mziwakhe Nkosi.
