The expected return of the United Rugby Championship players to the last two rounds of the Carling Currie Cup will not be able to resurrect the title hopes of the DHL Western Province and Hollywoodbets XV, while the Bulls will have to pull off a miracle to qualify; however, it could make the race for the home semi-finals and final interesting, to say the least.
It is rumoured that the Hollywoodbets Sharks XV will use the final two weeks of the Currie Cup to give their URC players time to get match-ready and fit. Apparently, the Lions will also unleash their URC group on the Currie Cup, while it is expected that the Bulls will use their last Currie Cup league match against the Cheetahs to get some vital match sharpness. The DHL Western Province is keeping their cards close to their chest.
The Lions have two matches at home still to play in the Currie Cup. Hosting a clearly struggling Bulls team before having to host the Griquas, who are currently placed third on the log. The Lions should be a favourite to advance to the final and even win it.
The Hollywoodbets Sharks XV is still to host the Boland and Pumas in Durban. Boland’s final match is against Western Province, which could prove to be vital for their home semi-final and final dreams.
The Bulls will host the Cheetahs in the final league match of the 2025 Carling Currie Cup. If the Bulls beat the Cheetahs, the Cheetahs could see themselves travelling to a semi-final and final.
