South Western Districts, the Limpopo Blue Bulls and Western Province teams started the SA Rugby U20 Women's Week on a winning note, with the tournament kicking off in miserable conditions at the Mthatha Stadium in the Eastern Cape on Sunday.
Cold and wet weather prevailed as six of the 12 teams kicked off their campaigns.
SWD beat the Blue Bulls in the opening game of the week by 33-12, with the women from the Southern Cape scoring five tries in the process.
SWD outside centre Shannon Pieterse scored a hat-trick of tries and added four conversions for a personal contribution of 23 points.
In the second match of the day, Limpopo beat Griquas by 12-0, with Masingita Nomvela and Tintswalo Mashavane scoring tries for the team from the north of South Africa.
The main game on the day was between hosts, Border, and Western Province, with the visitors winning by 12-5.
Anelisa Ndamase and Cammy Malone scored tries for WP, with Asemahle Zazela's try the only points for Border.
On Monday, the six other teams at the week will be in action. Free State and the Golden Lions clash at 09h30, followed by matches between Border 2 and Zimbabwe at 11h30, and Eastern Province and the Sharks at 13h30.
