Vodacom Bulls Almost Found A Way To Lose To DHL Stormers

Vodacom Bulls director of rugby Jake White said despite beating the HL Stormers 33-32, the Stormers could have won if the Stormers' replacement Clayton Blommetjies, did not miss an easy try conversion with seconds to go in the match.

“I would have been upset. I probably would have been asked if I was going to lose my job."

“If Blommetjies had kicked that kick over, I would really be unhappy because we found a way to lose that game."

“Even Schalk Burger just said to me, "Can you try any harder to lose a game?" And he’s right. I mean, we tried everything we could to actually lose that game."

“The fact that we got out of it, and won, is fantastic, but we will have to talk about it at Monday’s video session."

“We’re going to have to be a little bit more composed and controlled because at times when we were in our half we were rushing it too much.”

On the injury to Wiese who limped off during the second half of the match, White said he is hopeful that it is not a long-term setback.

“It’s his ankle, what that means is that it can be from that he twisted it to someone standing on his foot or whatever, he had to come off because his ankle was swollen and he couldn’t run on it."

“Hopefully it’s a grade three tear and not that serious.”

“It’s a tough competition, every week you get an update on every team and their injuries. Playing 12 months a year is coming at a cost. It’s not sustainable, we work on the basis of losing one and a half players every game."
