Following an average showing once again of our four United Rugby Championship franchises, selecting a team of the week was "problematic".
This week, the Hollywoodbets Sharks and Vodacom Bulls have five players, while the DHL Stormers have three, and the Lions have two players in the team, which does not make sense. Or is the coaching at the Hollywoodbets Sharks really the main issue?
Two players stood out this past weekend. Evan Roos once again showed that he is a must for the Springbok team, while our player of the week, JJ Theron, showed that when you are good enough, you must be selected. His physicality on the defence was the kick start the Bulls needed to secure the win against Connacht.
The omission of Jan Hendrik Wessels was due to his irresponsible behaviour during the match against Connacht, which could have resulted in the Vodacom Bulls playing with fourteen men for twenty minutes. Luckily for the Bulls, there was no video proof of the alleged foul play.
A player lucky to be included must be Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who was the main character in the Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu show. Admittedly, his genius is undenieable; however, I would have loved to see more of the players outside of Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu because his brilliance is being studied by his opponents and will be "sorted" before the end of the season. Personally, I prefer a playmaker like Keagan Johannes at ten, who is content to let the spotlight shine on the players on his outside.
