
The Emirates Lions continued their winning form at home beating Ulster 35-22 on Saturday afternoon in Johannesburg.
There was no score in the first ten minutes of the match until the Lions struck down the touchline to put Rabz Maxwane in space to score the first try of the match. Minutes later Kade Wolhuter converted a penalty to extend the Lions' lead to 08-00 after fifteen minutes of play.
With five minutes still to play the Lions attacked with a driving maul and eventually it was captain France Horn who scored the second try for the Lions to extend their lead to 15-00.
With the time up on the clock in the first half scrumhalf John Cooney sniped to score Ulster's first try to cut the Lions lead to 15-05 going into the halftime break.
Ulster continued their dominance in the second half and scored their second try when flyhalf Aidan Morgan burst through several "iffy" tackles to cut the Lions lead to just five points.
The Lions struck back almost immediately when Franco Marais and Henco van Wyk scored tries in quick succession to extend the Lions' lead to 27-10 and secure their bonus point.
A penalty kick by Lions' Kade Wolhuter was quickly followed by a try by Ulster's Werner Kok who pounced on a bouncing ball in the Lions' 22m and strolled over for his try.
With two minutes still to play replacement prop Corrie Barrett scored Ulster's bonus point try to which Kade Wolhuter replied immediately selling a dummy to the Ulster defenders and scoring a great try to extend the Lions' lead to 35-22 which was also the final score.
