URC: DHL Stormers Prep ‘Front Door’ Assault For Edinburgh Clash

29 September 2026

The DHL Stormers forward pack is gearing up to bash down the front door. Following a gruelling bonus-point victory over Connacht, forwards coach Rito Hlungwani has laid down a physical marker ahead of Friday’s United Rugby Championship clash against Edinburgh at Hive Stadium. The Cape side is embracing a brutal, collision-heavy blueprint designed to shatter opposition resolve from the opening whistle.

Hlungwani is demanding an uncompromising work rate from his engine room. There will be no saving legs or hiding from contact in the trenches of Scotland. “You mustn’t feel sorry for our forwards; these guys train hard for the worst-case scenario,” Hlungwani declared in the build-up to the match.

The objective is clear: use raw forward power to collapse the Edinburgh defensive line before unleashing the lethal backs out wide. The Stormers intend to march right through the middle of the park to force the defensive line to compress. “Our job is to make sure we come through the middle and tighten up the defence. It’s just getting the timing right of when to pull the ball out to the backs,” Hlungwani added.

The rolling maul has already emerged as the Stormers' ultimate weapon of psychological warfare after obliterating Connacht by a staggering 63 meters to one in driving distance. This weapon is explicitly designed to drain the tank of the opposition pack and break their spirit. “[A maul] I feel is something that takes out of the psychology of the opposition pack, and it’s something we use for that … to instil a bit of fatigue into their legs,” noted a satisfied Hlungwani.

However, the coaching staff is demanding clinical precision inside the red zone after several opportunities went begging in Ireland. While getting into the scoring zone was highly efficient, maximising the conversion rate is the primary focus of this week's training. The squad knows that turning entries into maximum points is what will ultimately secure back-to-back tour victories.
