World-renowned Coach Loffie Eloff has selected a matchday 23 squad from the boys that represented their unions at the 2023 u/16 Grant Khomo Youth Week hosted at Boland Landbou Agricultural School from 26 June to 29 June 2023.
"The Grant Khomo U16 week of 2023 ticked all the boxes. Besides the venue at Boland Landbou Agricultural School which was a perfect stage for such an event, the young 15/16-year-old boys were exposed to all of nature's elements in a typical Western Cape winter. Day 1 the players were entertained by gusting winds and Day 2 with winter rain and Day 3 a mixture of both. However, this did not stop or spoil the players' enthusiasm and efforts on the field. The supporters were entertained with top-quality rugby for that age group in harsh conditions. One should not forget this is still young boys entering the world and platforms at this level and wanting to make a statement for possible future rugby tournaments or a profession. I personally enjoyed the games and especially the passion of the coaches, dedication and efforts of the players.
Two young boys that were not considered for my team as they represented Namibia and Zimbabwe are Namibia's tighthead Rudolf Harmse en Zimbabwe's flyhalf Rory Honey who both impressed me and deserve a special mention.
Without any influence or any prior knowledge, I picked a squad of 23 players on their performances during the week"
