The Springboks scored thirty-six unanswered points in the second half to beat the All Blacks 43-10, handing their host their biggest defeat at home. The Springboks also retained the Freedom Cup, scored a bonus point win, and regained their place at the top of the rankings.
The Springboks started like a house on fire; however, despite a penalty and five-meter lineout in the All Blacks' twenty-two, the Springboks lost their first lineout to give the All Blacks an easy exit.
Following Kolbe’s knock-on in the All Blacks' in-goal area, RG Snyman’s “try” was disallowed following a knock-on by Cobus Reinach. Several mistakes by the Springboks made it easy for the All Blacks to defend the numerous attacks.
After eighteen minutes of play, the All Blacks attacked from their own twenty-two and, following brilliant passing and interplay, Leroy Carter scored in the corner. Damian McKenzie converted and extended the All Blacks' lead to 07-00.
Following an intercept by Cheslin Kolbe against the run of play, Kolbe ran seventy meters to level the scores, following the conversion by Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.
With ten minutes still to play in the first half, Damian McKenzie converted a penalty to put the All Blacks back into the lead by 10-07, which was also the halftime break.
The Springboks made a brilliant start off a dominant scrum, and eventually Cheslin Kolbe scored in the corner. Libbok converted to extend the Springboks’ lead to 14-10 after six minutes of play in the second half.
Two minutes later, Manie Libbok converted a penalty to extend the Springboks' lead to 17-10.
The Springboks continued to apply pressure and, following great work by Ruan Nortje stealing a lineout, Damian Willemse burst over for the Springboks' third try. Libbok converted to extend the Springboks' lead to 24-10 with twenty minutes to play in the second half.
The Springboks started to dominate, and following a brilliant Libbok kick-pass, Pieter-Steph du Toit caught and offloaded to Kwagga Smith, who scored in the corner to extend the Springboks' lead to 29-10.
With eight minutes to play, RG Snyman burst through and past several tackles to score the Springboks' fifth try to extend the Springboks' lead to 36-10 following Libbok’s conversion.
Andre Esterhuizen added his name to the scorecard with time up on the clock to secure a record-breaking 43-10 win in Wellington.
