DHL Stormers playmaker Sacha Feinburg-Mngomezulu has been named this year’s South African Vodacom URC Player of the Season following another fantastic campaign with the Cape Town side.
The award was open to any player from one of the four South African franchises, and forms part of the annual SA Rugby Awards, with the winner determined by votes from the South African media, the four South African club coaches/director of rugby, and Springbok head coach, Rassie Erasmus.
A total of 17 players from all four SA clubs received votes, with Feinberg-Mngomezulu coming out on top.
The 23-year-old has been central to the DHL Stormers’ attacking threat this season, and finished joint-fifth on the list for most points scored at the conclusion of the league phase of the competition, despite missing the start of the season through injury.
Sitho Mdlalose, CEO of Vodacom South Africa, said: “Sacha represents everything that makes the BKT United Rugby Championship such a captivating competition. He has shown tremendous determination to get to this level of the game. He has shown incredible resilience to come back from a serious injury. And he has shown us all a vision of the future through some of the most exciting and creative play we saw in the competition this season.”
“As the biggest supporter of South African rugby, Vodacom is extremely proud to reward a young player who is an inspiration and who represents such a bright future for the BKT United Rugby Championship as a platform for the next generation of stars in world rugby.”
