The Fidelity ADT Golden Lions U20 secured a gritty 26–12 victory over the DHL Stormers U20 Bolts. A dominant first-half blitz from the Johannesburg outfit laid the foundation for the win despite a spirited fightback from the Cape side.
The Lions U20 forward pack laid down an early marker, turning heavy pressure into points in the 13th minute when Miguel Smith crashed over for the opening try. Matthew Abbey added the extras to trigger a massive momentum shift.
The Lions continued to boss the collisions and exploit space out wide. Lindelani Nkambule then took centre stage, dotting down twice in the space of six minutes. His explosive running data left the Stormers reeling, sending the Lions into the sheds with a commanding 19–0 lead.
The Stormers Bolts rung the changes at the break, injecting fresh legs to spark a tactical resurgence. The tactical substitutions paid dividends when RJ Davids sniped through the defensive line to score. Jayden Brits slotted the conversion to get the Cape side onto the scoreboard.
The contest devolved into a fierce physical battle with both coaching staffs emptying their benches. The Lions eventually broke the second-half deadlock in the 78th minute when Grady Ngui powered over to seal the result. Abbey added his third conversion of the afternoon.
There was late drama in injury time as Lions player Rekkie Gerber was sent to the sin bin with a yellow card. The Stormers capitalised on the numerical advantage immediately. Jayden Brits crossed the whitewash for a late consolation try before the referee blew the final whistle.
The Lions cemented their second place on the log with a 26-12 win.
