A masterclass in attacking rugby saw the Vodacom Bulls U20 secure a commanding 54-29 win over the DHL Stormers U20 Bolts. Prop Ethan Van Dyk stole the show with a magnificent hat-trick, anchoring a dominant forward display that ultimately broke the visitors' resolve in a chaotic, twelve-try spectacle.
The hosting Bulls wasted no time asserting their physical dominance. Straight from the kick-off, Migael Turner crossed the whitewash in the 1st minute, with flyhalf Ruben Pienaar adding the extra two points.
The Stormers Bolts hit back quickly through a converted try by Jordan Jooste and a Rayaan Solomons penalty to briefly lead 10-7. However, the Bulls' heavy artillery soon took control. Elwin Jansen Van Vuuren and Xhanti Pongolo breached the Stormers' defence in quick succession, before Van Dyk claimed his first try just before the break, sending the teams into halftime with the Bulls leading 26-10.
The second half opened with a furious tactical shake-up as the Stormers made five substitutions at the break. The changes yielded immediate rewards. Replacements MJ Van der Westhuizen and Xabiso Mkiva both crashed over for converted tries within fifteen minutes of the restart.
Compounding the pressure, Bulls replacement Stefan McDonald received a yellow card in the 52nd minute. Forced into emergency front-row coverage, Van Dyk temporarily subbed off and on through technical card rules. Despite playing with 14 men, Van Dyk showed incredible work rate to grab his second try in the 58th minute. The Stormers refused to go away, hitting back immediately via Luca Potgieter to narrow the gap to 33-29.
With McDonald returning from the sin bin and numerical parity restored, the Bulls unleashed a devastating final ten minutes.
Van Dyk completed his memorable hat-trick in the 69th minute, triggering an avalanche of late points. Lee-Rynne Sinkfontein and Dylan Engelbrecht added late tries as the tiring Stormers defence disintegrated under relentless pressure. Pienaar capped off a stellar personal performance with the boot, finishing with seven conversions to secure the emphatic 54-29 victory.
