
Pretoria Boys High 20-43 Rondebosch
Boys High converted an early penalty, to which Rondebosch replied with a try, beating the defence of Boys High out wide to lead 05-03. Rondebosch scored another try with twenty-three minutes to play to extend their lead to 10-03. Boys High clawed their way back into the game and converted another penalty; however, Rondebosch replied with two tries to extend their lead 24-06 with ten minutes to play in the first half.
Pretoria Boys started the second half with a forward’s try after just three minutes of play. Thereafter, Rondebosch absorbed a lot of pressure and scored two great tries from broken play, extending their lead to 43-15 with ten minutes still to play in the second half. Despite being unable to win, Boys High kept on fighting and scored a great team try to cut Rondebosch’s lead to 43-20, which was the final score.
Jeppe 36-40 Michaelhouse
Michaelhouse scored two early tries before Jeppe scored their only try of the first half. Thereafter, Michaelhouse scored two more tries to lead 28-05 at the halftime break. Michaelhouse scored an early try in the second half; whereafter, Jeppe started their comeback, scoring two tries in quick succession to cut Michaelhouse’s lead to 33-19 and twenty minutes still to play in the second half. Michaelhouse extended their lead to 40-19; whereafter, Jeppe scored three great tries to cut Michaelhouse's lead to 40-36, which was the final score. Michaelhouse was made to work a lot harder for their 40-36 win than expected.
Affies 66-19 Grey High
Affies made a good start to the match, scoring two tries off lineout mauls to lead 14-00 after eight minutes of play in the first half. Not to be outdone, Grey High scored their first try off a lineout-maul four minutes later to cut Affies’ lead to 14-05. Affies attacked from the kickoff and, after spreading the ball wide, and great interplay, scored their third try after just fifteen minutes of play to extend their lead to 21-05. Grey High replied with two tries from lineout mauls and trailing 21-19. with eight minutes to play. A mistake by Grey under a high ball led to Affies kicking the ball ahead and scoring their fourth try, leading 28-19 going into the second half.
Affies were awarded a penalty try after three minutes of play, and followed that up with a try in the corner following them setting up camp in Grey High’s twenty-two. Affies lead 40-19 after ten minutes of play in the second half. Thereafter, Affies scored four tries out wide to secure a 66-19 win.
SACS 07-24 Maritzburg College
SACS opened the scoring after four minutes of play and continued to dominate territory and possession. Despite dominating, SACS could not convert their dominance into points, and Maritzburg scored a well-worked try to level the scores 07-07 at the halftime break.
Maritzburg College started like a house on fire and dominated the early proceedings. College converted a penalty after eight minutes of play to edge 10-07 into the lead. The rest of the second half was a balanced battle between two very good teams, giving their all. With time running out, Maritzburg scored two tries to lead 24-07, which was the final score.
Selborne 26-05 Parktown
In the first half, both teams played an exciting brand of rugby backed up by committed defence. With five minutes to play, Selborne used their big boys to launch wave after wave of attacks until Parktown’s defence cracked and Selborne crashed over to lead 07-00. Parktown replied immediately, spreading the ball wide to reduce Selborne’s lead to 07-05, which was the halftime try.
Selborne started to dominate in the second half and extended their lead, using their driving forwards to score their second try to lead 12-05 after eight minutes of play in the second half. Selborne scored two extra tries in a scrappy match to win 26-05.
