Paarl Boishaai Confirmed That Sean Erasmus Stepped Down as 1stXV Head Coach

In a major shakeup for South African rugby, Hoër Jongenskool Paarl Boishaai has confirmed the resignation of legendary 1stXV Head Coach, Sean Erasmus.

The iconic schoolboy tactician is set to trade the blue-and-white stripes of "Boishaai" for the maroon jersey of Stellenbosch University, taking over the reins as the new Head Coach of Maties Rugby Club.

Erasmus will fill the high-profile vacancy left by Kabamba Floors, who abruptly resigned from his post at Maties at the end of June.

This appointment marks Erasmus’s second high-profile venture out of the schoolboy rugby ranks. He famously left Boishaai at the end of 2018 to join the Lions Rugby Company in Johannesburg, where he spent three years shaping their defense across Super Rugby and Currie Cup campaigns.

While he returned to Paarl ahead of the 2022 season for a highly anticipated second stint, the allure of testing his tactical acumen in the ultra-competitive Varsity Cup environment has drawn him back to the senior arena.

The move represents a massive coup for Maties, who look to rebuild and reassert their dominance in the Varsity Cup under Erasmus's proven talent-development structures.

Meanwhile, Paarl Boys’ High faces the daunting task of replacing a club legend. The school confirmed that a successor for the 1st Team Head Coach position has not yet been finalised, and a comprehensive recruitment process will begin immediately.
