Monnas will travel to Bloemfontein eager to show their supporters that their rebuilt is on track despite a shaky start to 2026 season.
Despite sporting one of the best win/loss ratios against Grey College, Monnas’ recent performance against Grey was less than impressive. In 2024, they lost 19-87 and in 03-47 a year later, despite making several changes to their coaching staff. They started the 2026 season with a 35-36 loss to Diamantveld in Kimberley, whereafter they bullied Weldkom Gim with a 87-22 at home.
Grey College, which also made several changes to its coaching staff, had an impressive start to their season, beating Trio 48-12, Welkom Gim 109-03 and Oakdale 38-07. What was even more impressive was the speed and accuracy they displayed on the attack and defence, especially outwitting the much heavier pack of Oakdale at Riversdal a week ago. Grey College is definately the in-form team in 2026.
The only comparisons we can make are that both teams played Welkom Gim; however, ignoring the number of tries scored and taking into account the points scored against it, it is clear that the defence of Monnas still needs a lot of work. It would be fair to say that Monnas will try to use their big forwards to run at the smaller Grey defence; however, as against Oakdale, expect Grey to respond, scoring tries at regular intervals as they put Monnas under a lot of pressure up front and at the back. An "easy" win for Grey College.
Elsewhere, the unbeaten Jim Fouche hosts Witteberg who lost two of their three matches in 2026. In Kimberley, Diamantveld will hope to bounce back from their surprise loss to Trio, looking for the brilliant form that earned them a deserved 36-35 win against Monnas two weeks earlier.
