The Hollywoodbets Sharks have pulled off a major coup, announcing that two-time Rugby World Cup winner Ma'a Nonu will spend the next few months in Durban. The All Blacks legend arrives as part of a high-performance mentorship programme designed to accelerate the development of the club's next generation of talent by exposing them to one of the most successful leaders in world rugby.
Nonu joins the franchise primarily in a mentorship and leadership capacity. He will work alongside the coaching staff to support player development and strengthen the club's high-performance culture. He is tasked with fast-tracking the growth of exciting outside backs like Jurenzo Julius, Jaco Williams, and Zekhethelo Siyaya. Additionally, the 44-year-old veteran remains available for selection as a player-coach, providing powerful midfield cover at inside centre when captain André Esterhuizen is away on Springbok international duty.
Through his long-standing relationship with Head Coach JP Pietersen, having clashed in historic Springbok-All Blacks Tests and later playing together at Toulon, Durban became the ideal environment for Nonu to give back to the game.
Throughout his illustrious 103-Test All Blacks career, Nonu was immersed in one of the most successful high-performance cultures in world sport. While his rugby achievements are exceptional, it is his lived experience of building elite standards, accountability, and winning behaviours over more than two decades that makes this opportunity unique for the Sharks.
