Lions Rugby Star Accused Of Assault While Allegedly Under The Influence Of Drugs

Lions rugby player Bronson Mills appeared in court on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, after handing himself over to police regarding an alleged assault incident in Cape Town.

Mills, accompanied by his lawyer, reported to the Hout Bay Police Station on Tuesday morning. He was arrested, charged, and released on bail before his court appearance.

Mills is accused of assaulting a Cape Town student, Marumo Selane, at a house party. The victim claims the assault was an "alcohol and cocaine-fuelled rage," an allegation Mills has not publicly responded to.

The Lions have stated they will not comment until they have been fully briefed by their legal representatives.

Selane's detailed statement read: "On Monday morning, around 4:00, I was at a friend’s house in Cape Town with a group of approximately eight to nine people after a night out."

“While there, I was accused by an individual named Bronson Mills of stealing salmon from the refrigerator. I did not plan on stealing the fish, and I told him that directly.”

“Bronson became extremely aggressive. He dragged me out of the house, verbally abused me, and physically assaulted me."

“He punched me multiple times in the face, threw me to the ground, and kicked me while swearing and shouting. I repeatedly told him to stop and apologised out of fear for my safety.”

“Bronson has a known history of violence and substance abuse, including cocaine use, and has assaulted others in the past under similar circumstances. On the night he attacked me, he was under the influence of cocaine and alcohol.”
