Lange Hat-Trick and Mauling Masterclass Drive Suzuki Griquas Past Hollywoodbets Sharks XV

The Suzuki Griquas unleashed a devastating second-half performance to crush the Hollywoodbets Sharks XV 55-21 in a thrilling encounter in Kimberley.

The hosts crossed the whitewash nine times, dominating the set-piece and capitalising on discipline errors to run away with a comprehensive bonus-point victory.

The Griquas opened the scoring early. In the 8th minute, Janus Venter powered over the line off the back of a clinical lineout maul. George Whitehead added the extras to make it 07-00.

Disaster struck for the Sharks in the 13th minute when flyhalf Tim Swiel was shown a yellow card, and the referee simultaneously awarded a penalty try to the hosts, doubling their lead to 14-00.

Despite being a man down, the Sharks found a lifeline. In the 17th minute, Tino Mavesere pounced on a bouncing ball from an overthrown Griquas lineout to score. Luan Giliomee converted, narrowing the gap to 14-07.

The Griquas responded quickly in the 21st minute when Dylan Maart dived over in the corner with an acrobatic swan dive. Whitehead missed the tough conversion, leaving the score at 19-07.

The Sharks then launched a furious fightback. In the 26th minute a returning Swiel ran a brilliant line to score and convert his own try (19-14).

Eleven minutes later Johan Momsen picked and drove from five metres out to score. Swiel converted, giving the Sharks their first lead of the match at 21-19.

With the first-half clock ticked into red, the Griquas launched a breathless 15-man attack. Bobby Alexander ran a superb support line to take the final pass and secure the team's bonus-point try. Whitehead converted, sending the hosts into the break with a 26-21 halftime lead.

The second half belonged entirely to the home side as the Griquas completely locked down the game with hard, disciplined running and unstoppable set-piece power.

Dylan Maart ignited the spark just five minutes after the restart, finishing off a brilliant counter-attack that started deep within the Griquas' own half. The unconverted try pushed the lead to 31-21.

The final quarter turned into the Tiaan Lange show. The replacement hooker destroyed the Sharks' defence with a masterclass in mauling.

In the 65th minute Lange scored his first off a powerful lineout drive, converted by Liam Koen. Four minutes later Lange repeated the trick off another brilliant maul to stretch the lead to 43-21. Six minutes later Lange's hat-trick was completed off yet another brutal, unstoppable driving maul (48-21).

The Griquas saved the best for last. In the 79th minute, they put together a flawless team try, allowing Maart to crash over for his own hat-trick. Koen added the final conversion to seal an emphatic 55-21
